Location Gateway Overview
The Location Gateway delivers a faster and more cost effective route to location enable applications than direct operator connections. It provides a simple API using XML standards to enable dynamic access to a cross-network handset location feed.
Applications simply send the mobile telephone number (MSISDN) to the Location Gateway and the real-time location of the handset is returned with additional supporting information
Agreements and connections are in place with Vodafone, O2, Orange, T-Mobile and Virgin Mobile. 3 is expected to be available in 2012.
If the application cannot access the MSISDN, the Mobile Internet Edition of the service enables mobile internet services to obtain the location of a handset on Vodafone, O2, Orange, T-Mobile and Virgin Mobile without knowledge of the mobile number.
Use Cases
The Location Gateway Services are being used to location-enable a range of corporate and consumer applications including; fleet and mobile workforce tracking, ‘Find My Nearest’ & ‘FriendFinder’ type services as well as mobile marketing campaigns.
