Monetised Search
The Monetised Search service was originally developed for Orange and is now available for any mobile site/app to use in both the UK and USA markets.
The Monetised Search API enables you to monetise your mobile site/app through the incorporation of advertiser paid listings – it can also provide additional search content such as backfill listings, images, spelling and related search suggestions.
The service is being used on a number of mobile services including Orange World in the UK (for both adult and non-adult). We are now handling in excess of 80 million search ad requests per week.
How the Monetised Search service works:
Customers send a keyword or phrase which has been generated from a search box or from a clickable link on a mobile site or mobile app.
The API returns paying advertiser listings based on the keyword or phrase submitted. In addition web backfill listings, images, Did You Mean and Related Searches can be returned.
The results are displayed by our customers and revenue is earned when a user clicks on one of the paid for listings.
The service also includes ‘Term Correction’ functionality to optimise relevant results which produces a 70% increase in clicks/revenues over and above a standard search implementation.
The API Spec
The API spec supports both XML and JSON formats and can be found here.
Web Based Demo Tool
Here is a one pager to access to our quick test utility which demonstrates the functionality of the Monetised Search API. It also displays the actual API request that is generated by any search request.
Some Stats
The service has been running for several years and our knowledge of what users are searching for was published in our 2010 White Paper which can be downloaded here.
