13th December 2011 - Mobile Commerce partners with Saga to launch teen slang translation app for iTunes App Store
Mobile Commerce, the UK’s leading provider of location-based services (LBS) and mobile content integration, has partnered with Saga, the over 50s group, to launch the ‘Woteva’ teen slang translation app for the iTunes App Store.
The app is a free to download 'Teenglish' dictionary, designed to help parents and grandparents understand teen slang, with a database of 500 words and phrases. The user scrolls through an A-Z list of phrases to find the definition or listen to voice recordings of them.
Words users will find in the app include the likes of ‘fomo’ (someone with a ‘fear of missing out’) ‘hot mess’ (flustered) ‘frenz’ (friends) and ‘hiberdating’ (a person who drops their friends once they start dating).
To make sure Woteva is always up to date, users can also submit their own words, phrases and definitions to Saga. They can also share their favourites with friends via text and email, and Twitter and Facebook directly from the app.
Steve Page, Mobile Commerce CEO, said: “We’re delighted to bring the Saga Woteva app to iTunes App Store. Mobile Commerce is always looking to bring innovative content to mobile handsets, and this is a great example of that. Users are demanding entertaining and engaging content, and whilst this app is fun it also illustrates the narrowing technology age gap. We’ve seen a rapid growth in the number of smartphone users aged 50+ over the last 12 months, so mobile devices are no longer just for the younger generation.”
The app can be downloaded for free from the iTunes App Store here.
